It's difficult for the Australian squad to break new ground.

The highest peaks have been successfully scaled.

We're talking about the team that has won seven Cricket World Cups, plus six more T20 titles, and earlier maintained nearly four years without defeat in 50-over cricket.

The alternative records, the ones sought by the record chasers, are what's still available for a side that has won it all.

It needed up to Sunday's three-wicket win over India for them to complete their first ODI chase over 300, reclaiming their record for the biggest in the female 50-over format, is, honestly, a compliment to the bowlers that have represented Australia over five decades.

It is hard for their batsmen to hold a record if not provided the chance.

Ultimately, the result of Australia giving up 330 runs was skipper Alyssa Healy receiving a chance to produce her latest masterpiece.

Initially recognized as the 19-year-old niece of celebrated previous Aussie wicketkeeper Ian, she made her debut in 2010 after her nation failed to win either of the T20 or ODI World Cups held the previous year and has experienced everything through 15 trophy-laden years since.

A T20 championship victory came three months after her debut and seven international trophies have come from 10 attempts across formats.

The tough gloveman was in attendance in Derby in 2017 when a last-four loss by India briefly halted the successful run.

That loss "pushed us to reconsider our benchmarks," Healy commented earlier.

At the subsequent ODI World Cup in New Zealand, Healy hit 170 against England in the final and was awarded tournament MVP. She ensured her country would not come up short.

The question of whether this latest epic knock topped that previous effort is debatable.

Certain people claim the argument supporting final game tension. Others can counter with the test that comes when pursuing an unprecedented total and an enthusiastic Indian fanbase of 20,000.

What's clear is this century was considerably tougher to predict.

The New Zealand onslaught in 2022 came as she was the highest scorer, but this performance followed six innings in India from the beginning of the previous month in which she had not exceeded 30 runs.

"If you've observed me in training, it has been a frustrating experience because I feel like my form was missing completely," commented Healy.

"But once you take the field, your fighting spirit kick in and you simply focus on the match."

Healy's competitive nature has continuously been her great strength - and an invaluable trait in replacing iconic ex-skipper Meg Lanning.

She was challenged by India's promising player Kranti Gaud in last month's ODI series, fallen to the young fast bowler in all three matches, but here that only provided Healy's inspiration.

One run resulted off Gaud's first delivery and after that the right-hander was on her way.

"The possibility to take the field and face the challenge with her and merely enjoy the moment in that aspect, kind of motivated me," commented Healy.

She achieved fifty in 35 pitches - her swiftest at the global tournament - and her century in 84 as she punished short deliveries, scoring 21 fours and three sixes.

By the time she was out her side needed 66 more at a run-a-ball - an achievable target now requiring a leisurely stroll.

"Chasing 330 runs is uncharted waters so I am glad we have the confidence to achieve that now," added Healy.

"Preferably we shouldn't have to repeat it but, if necessary, we believe we can achieve it."

That comment will be the final thing rival teams at this World Cup need to hear.

During the last week a feeling they will triumph from any situation has become more firm - this victory coming after success over Pakistan by 107 runs despite struggling at 76-7 at one stage.

Next Australia play Bangladesh before an encounter with longtime competitors England in Indore in ten days, by which point a last-four spot may probably be guaranteed.

It was at that stage they exited the previous year's T20 World Cup in an unexpected loss by South Africa - a game Healy was absent due to ruptured tissue in her foot as she guided Australia for the initial instance at a significant event.

So great is her will, she later said she regretted not playing with the discomfort.

But while she subsequently acknowledged those fitness problems have postponed thoughts of retirement, this tournament is anticipated as her last as captain in 50-over cricket and she is still to achieve a world championship as captain.

Success in India would take her to the summit of her last major obstacle.
